Day 36: 12.6 planned walking miles from Quilcene to Brinnon. Park and shoreline access remain subject to current public notices.
Route overview, not turn-by-turn directions.

The planned 12.6-mile stage reaches Brinnon on Hood Canal. The Dosewallips brings sediment from the Olympics into a braided estuary at the water’s edge.
At the mouth of the Dosewallips, sediment carried down from the Olympic Mountains spreads into the flatter ground beside Hood Canal. State Parks describes the river dividing among channels as sand, silt and gravel accumulate. The resulting estuary provides habitat for shellfish and other aquatic life.
The park’s history follows the effort to secure public access to these tidelands. The public shoreline here has a civic history as well as a natural one. The effort to protect access returns later in the chapter at Potlatch, farther along Hood Canal.
Hood Canal itself is a fjord, despite its name. USGS describes its long, narrow form and has studied the way water circulates and oxygen changes within it. The route follows the western side through Brinnon, Triton Cove and Lilliwaup before reaching the Great Bend near Potlatch.
Day 36 carries 12.6 planned walking miles from Quilcene. Triton Cove and Lilliwaup follow as the route continues along the canal’s western side.
Choose where you live
Continue to the official registry that serves you. It decides eligibility, handles registration and contacts you if you may match a patient.
United States — NMDP
NMDP accepts new registry members who are 18 to 35, live in the US, its territories or freely associated states, can meet NMDP’s health guidelines, and are not already registered through another US organization. Joining happens at home: you answer a few questions on NMDP’s site, they mail you a free cheek-swab kit, and you swab and send it back. Once you are a member you stay listed until you are 61 unless you ask to be removed — 61 is when NMDP takes you off, not an age at which you can join. NMDP makes the final eligibility decision.
