Day 10: 13.6 planned walking miles to Blanchard. The following Chuckanut stage needs current access and pedestrian-route review; this map is not turn-by-turn guidance.
Route overview, not turn-by-turn directions.

The planned 13.6-mile day reaches Blanchard at the southern end of the Chuckanut section. The state forest above it has a history of logging, fire and public management.
Blanchard State Forest covers 4,500 acres in Skagit County. The Department of Natural Resources manages it as working forestland, with recreation and conservation interests represented alongside timber interests in its advisory process. The mountain behind this route point brings those overlapping uses into the story of the coast.
DNR records extensive logging from the mid-nineteenth century and a major fire in 1925, after which the land was deeded to the state. Replanting and protection followed over the ensuing decades. That history explains why the forest above the community is closely tied to both work and public use.
The planned stage from Mount Vernon is 13.6 miles. The next entry follows Chuckanut Drive, whose historic road opened to automobile traffic in 1916. Its coastal alignment follows the wooded slopes above the bays. Narrow shoulders and limited sight lines make a current pedestrian-access check essential before travel.
Choose where you live
Continue to the official registry that serves you. It decides eligibility, handles registration and contacts you if you may match a patient.
United States — NMDP
NMDP accepts new registry members who are 18 to 35, live in the US, its territories or freely associated states, can meet NMDP’s health guidelines, and are not already registered through another US organization. Joining happens at home: you answer a few questions on NMDP’s site, they mail you a free cheek-swab kit, and you swab and send it back. Once you are a member you stay listed until you are 61 unless you ask to be removed — 61 is when NMDP takes you off, not an age at which you can join. NMDP makes the final eligibility decision.
