Are stem cell transplants done in Montserrat?

The Government of Montserrat said visiting consultants from Trinidad and Tobago and Antigua resumed endoscopy at Glendon Hospital in August 2023, sparing 25 patients the hurdles of care overseas, though emergency endoscopy still has to be done abroad. 9

The Government of Montserrat said a visiting endoscopy team carried out 32 procedures for 23 residents between May 6 and 27, 2025, adding that the island commissioned its endoscopy equipment in 2022. 11

Can a hospital in Montserrat search abroad for a donor?

A Government of Montserrat report on hospital records from 2011 to 2021 says that, with a population of just over 5,000, access to medical care is limited and often means travel to other islands, and that Glendon Hospital recorded 6,033 acute admissions in that time. 6

The Pan American Health Organization said in September 2025 that its work with Montserrat’s Ministry of Health and Social Services includes studying the cost of overseas care, aiming at smoother referrals between primary care, the hospital and overseas care. 4
