Day 26: 4.7 planned walking miles from Sidney to Saanichton. The mileage follows a mapped walking route; no public meeting is announced.

The planned 4.7-mile stage heads south from Sidney to Saanichton, in Central Saanich, a municipality formed in 1950 to protect its rural heritage.
Saanichton is one of the two communities of the District of Central Saanich, with Brentwood Bay. Central Saanich was incorporated on December 12, 1950, when it separated from the Municipality of Saanich to protect its rural heritage. Its early settlers were mostly farmers, growing hops, fruit, hay, grain and berries, and the district still describes its rolling farmland.
Saanichton is also home to the Saanich Fair grounds on Stelly’s Cross Road. The fair is run by the North and South Saanich Agricultural Society, a volunteer charity that traces its work to 1868, and it is one of the oldest continuously running agricultural fairs in British Columbia. It is held each year on the Labour Day weekend.
This day and the next divide the walk from Sidney to Royal Oak in two, with Saanichton in the middle. From here the route continues south to Royal Oak on Saturday, October 3, and into Victoria on Sunday, October 4, where the walk is back on its original schedule.

You answer eligibility questions online, complete a profile and sign a consent form; a cheek-swab kit arrives in the mail within one to three weeks for you to swab and return. If you live in Québec, you register with Héma-Québec instead. Canadian Blood Services makes the final eligibility decision.
