Burnaby received its municipal charter in September 1892. Its current city profile describes a quarter of its land as parks and open space. Parks and open ground form a substantial part of the city the walk is planned to cross.
The Central Valley Greenway connects Vancouver, Burnaby and New Westminster over 24 kilometres. Burnaby describes the route as following a shallow valley. It is a regional connection through an urban area rather than a continuous wilderness trail, and it helps place this chapter within the wider Lower Mainland.
The notice checked on September 5, 2026 lists a closure between Sperling Avenue and Douglas Road from August 10 to early November, with signed detours for culvert and paving work. The notice does not state a year in its text. Check the city’s current detour information before using this section of the greenway.
