Become a bone marrow donor in Guam

NMDP signs up people who live in Guam. It is run by National Marrow Donor Program, a nonprofit organization.

Service members and their families, reservists, retirees and DoD civilian staff on Guam can also join through Salute to Life, run for the Department of Defense; on Oct 16, 2026, its walk-in sites included the first-floor laboratory at U.S. Naval Hospital Guam on weekdays. [5, 7]

NMDP names Guam among the places where its team works directly with donors. [6]

The Honolulu Star-Bulletin reported that Guam’s first bone marrow donor drive, run by the Hawaii Bone Marrow Donor Registry and paid for by the National Marrow Donor Program, signed up 3,409 people on Feb 1 to 3, 2003, when Pacific Islanders made up 0.1 percent of the national registry. [14, 15]

The Honolulu Advertiser reported in June 2008 that the Hawaii Bone Marrow Donor Registry, founded in 1989 and part of the National Marrow Donor Program, had recruited about 68,000 donors in Hawaii, Guam and American Samoa, more than 251 of whom had donated. [17]

In February 2012, Guam’s governor asked residents to join a bone marrow drive at Guam Premier Outlets on Feb 10 to 12 for two Guam patients with leukemia, explaining that the swab only tests whether you match and that donating is a later choice. [8]

An appeal by the Asian American Donor Program sought a donor for a Chamorro man from Guam diagnosed with leukemia in April 2012, saying his match would likely come from someone who is Pacific Islander. [16]

Andersen Air Force Base on Guam announced unit-hosted cheek-swab drives across the base and at the base exchange for Oct 6, 2014, open to service members, Reserve and Guard, family members, base civilian employees and retirees aged 18 to 60. [9]
