Is there a bone marrow registry in Azerbaijan?

As of , we haven’t found a bone marrow donor registry that people who live in Azerbaijan can join. That doesn’t mean there isn’t one. Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Health organ donation center said in October 2024 that the country’s stem cell bank, a register of typed donors, had not yet been formed, AZERTAC reported. 14

APA reported in December 2025 that Liv Bona Dea Hospital’s new transplant unit was licensed under the list of transplant institutions approved by Azerbaijan’s Cabinet of Ministers; when we read the report on Oct 16, 2026, it mentioned no donor registry. 15

Can people in Azerbaijan join a registry abroad?

On Oct 15, 2026, Russia’s Federal Bone Marrow Donor Registry and Rusfond’s national registry signed up only people living in Russia, and Türk Kızılay required a Turkish identity number and an address record in Türkiye to join TÜRKÖK, so none of the three is open to people living in Azerbaijan. 1 2 7

Are stem cell transplants done in Azerbaijan?

A 2022 history of transplantation in Azerbaijan, in Experimental and Clinical Transplantation, dates the first bone marrow transplants to around 2002 and counts 112 bone marrow and 22 stem cell transplants by 2021. 16

Has Azerbaijan announced a registry or a law?

The head of Azerbaijan’s organ donation center told AZERTAC in October 2024 that people who sign the Cabinet of Ministers’ donor form when giving blood could be tissue-typed and entered in a register, and that about 1,000 typed relatives were already on a list from the National Hematology and Transfusiology Center. 14

Azerbaijan sends children who need a bone marrow transplant to Türkiye’s Anadolu Health Center under a contract, after a medical commission at the National Hematology and Transfusiology Institute, the ministry’s organ donation center told AZERTAC in October 2024. 14
