Who can join in Luxembourg?
Luxembourg and the world’s donor search
The Stefan-Morsch-Stiftung said in February 2025 that about 22,500 donors from Luxembourg are registered and that 20 people from Luxembourg donated stem cells the year before. 3
The foundation reported that new registrations in Luxembourg rose by 750 from 2023 to 2024, thanks to the Association Don de Moelle du Luxembourg and other local groups. 3
The Stefan-Morsch-Stiftung wrote in October 2020 that until 2003 people in Luxembourg had no national registry to join, and that about 30 people from Luxembourg had given stem cells to a patient since then. 4
Luxembourg’s associations gave the Stefan-Morsch-Stiftung more than 52,000 euros in six years toward typing costs of about 40 euros per new donor, the foundation wrote in October 2020, and Don de Moelle gave it another 2,500 euros in February 2025. 3 4
What happens after I join?
The Stefan-Morsch-Stiftung lets people register from 16 with a guardian’s consent, and donors can be at most 60 years old. 1
Donors from Luxembourg give blood stem cells in Birkenfeld, near Trier in Germany, or marrow at a hospital the foundation works with, and two years after a transplant the Stefan-Morsch-Stiftung can arrange a meeting with the recipient if both agree, the Association Don de Moelle du Luxembourg says. 9
