Is there a bone marrow registry in Panama?

For people who live in Panama. Live somewhere else? Find your country.

As of , we haven’t found enough to verify a way to join from Panama yet. That doesn’t mean there isn’t one. Panama’s social security fund (CSS) has had a donor database, Panamá-Dono, which TVN reported found the donor for Panama’s first unrelated marrow transplant in Oct 2022; we found no current way to join it. 9

When we checked on Oct 16, 2026, the sign-up form of Colombia’s DarCélulas asked for an address in a Colombian department and city, and NMDP took only residents of the U.S., its territories or freely associated states; neither offered people living in Panama a way to join. 1 2

La Estrella de Panamá reported in Nov 2025, citing data from the social security fund (CSS), that Panama’s first marrow transplant from a genetically identical relative was done in 2000 and its first half-matched (haploidentical) stem cell transplant in 2014. 12

The Instituto Oncológico Nacional and the Complejo Hospitalario did Panama’s first transplants with patients’ own marrow in 2000, for insured and uninsured patients alike, and the Hospital del Niño followed, with the CSS national transplant laboratory doing all the tissue typing, the laboratory’s director wrote in 2026. 13

Has Panama announced a registry or a law?

La Prensa reported in Jan 2014 that Panama’s social security fund (CSS) started Panamá-Dono, its program for volunteer unrelated donors, in Oct 2012, after its national transplant laboratory found that only 75 of 198 patients studied from 2007 to 2011 had a matching relative. 11
