On Oct 16, 2026, SABMR’s online form still offered Port Louis as its one Mauritian town, yet SABMR’s rules exclude anyone not living in South Africa or leaving within two years, and we found no SABMR drive in Mauritius, so we’re still checking before we link to it for people there. 1 2

South Africa’s two registries don’t take people living in Mauritius: on Oct 11, 2026, DKMS Africa’s form asked first whether you live in South Africa, and SABMR excluded anyone not living there. DKMS Africa takes other nationals only after 18 months living in South Africa. 2 4 5

Are stem cell transplants done in Mauritius?

Marrow transplants are new in Mauritius: a March 2011 report for France’s development agency, AFD, said bone marrow transplants were not done in Mauritius, although cancer surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy were available there. 14

AFD’s 2011 report listed some blood tests among the care then unavailable in Mauritius, including the complete diagnosis of childhood leukemia and the molecular follow-up of chronic myeloid leukemia, and said Mauritians needing care unavailable at home went mainly to India. 14

The same 2011 AFD report described a two-speed health system in Mauritius, with free public care that isn’t always available right away and a better-performing private sector used mainly by the 250,000 people with insurance, and said India’s Apollo group was about to open a 200-bed clinic there. 14

Has Mauritius announced a registry or a law?

In October 2026 the Mauritius Ministry of Health and Wellness listed a new cancer center at Solferino among its ongoing major infrastructure projects; we found no announcement of a stem cell donor registry. 7
