Can people in Cameroon join a registry abroad?

France’s registry, checked on Oct 11, 2026, takes people living abroad only if they plan to move back to France, and they must give a French address for the saliva kit, so people who live in Cameroon can’t join it. 2

South Africa’s two registries take only people who live in South Africa: on Oct 11, 2026, DKMS Africa’s form asked first whether you live there, and SABMR excluded anyone not living there, so people in Cameroon can’t join either from home. 6 7

Geneva University Hospitals say the first kidney transplant in Central Africa was done in November 2021 at Hôpital Général de Yaoundé in Cameroon, through their collaboration, and that Geneva teams travel to Yaoundé once or twice a year for series of transplants until local staff can do them on their own. 8

Has Cameroon announced a registry or a law?

Journal du Cameroun reported that on June 25, 2025 Cameroon’s government filed a bill on the donation, removal and grafting of human biological material: 55 articles in eight chapters, with an ethics committee that would keep a register of donors and the national list of recipients waiting for a graft. 14

Cameroon’s bill punishes anyone who removes biological material outside an approved center, or without the donor’s free and informed consent, with 10 to 20 years in prison and a fine of 2 million to 20 million CFA francs, Journal du Cameroun reported in June 2025. 14

Cameroon Tribune reported on July 10, 2025 that Cameroon’s parliament had just adopted the bill, which the public health minister defended before both chambers, and that once promulgated it would fill a legal gap. 15
